Description

Apple and Blueberry Christmas Dog Treats are festive, healthy, and easy-to-make snacks your pup will adore this holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour for gluten-free)
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • ¼ cup pureed blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon homemade peanut butter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix whole wheat flour and baking powder. Add cinnamon if desired.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together applesauce, egg, and honey (plus peanut butter if using).
  4. Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients to form a soft, pliable dough. Adjust with water or flour as needed.
  5. Divide the dough into two portions. Knead pureed blueberries into one half for a purple color.
  6. Break dough into chunks, arrange on a floured surface, and knead lightly to create a marbled effect.
  7. Roll out dough to ¼-inch thickness and cut shapes using a bone-shaped or festive cookie cutter.
  8. Place treats on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until firm and golden around the edges.
  10. Cool completely before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, in the fridge for a month, or freeze for 3 months.
  • Ensure the applesauce is unsweetened and free from added sugars or artificial sweeteners like xylitol.
  • Remove apple seeds and core when making homemade applesauce for dogs.
  • These treats are safe for most dogs but consult your vet if your dog has allergies or dietary restrictions.
