Description

Carrot candy cane treats for dogs are a festive, healthy homemade snack using carrots, parsley, and whole wheat flour, perfect for holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cooked and mashed carrots
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour (or a gluten-free alternative)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup parsley or spinach puree
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • Optional: pinch of sea salt (omit if your dog requires a low-sodium diet)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook and mash 1 cup of carrots until smooth.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the mashed carrots, whole wheat flour, egg, and coconut oil to form a dough. If it’s sticky, gradually add more flour.
  4. In a separate bowl, blend parsley or spinach with water to create a puree.
  5. Divide the dough into two equal portions. Knead the green puree into one half, leaving the other half orange.
  6. Roll each portion into ropes about 1/2 inch in diameter and cut into 5-6 inch pieces.
  7. Twist one green rope and one orange rope together, forming a candy cane shape by bending the top.
  8. Place the treats on the baking sheet and sprinkle with sea salt if desired.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until firm and golden brown.
  10. Let the treats cool completely before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or in the refrigerator for two weeks.
  • To make treats grain-free, substitute whole wheat flour with a gluten-free alternative.
  • Always check ingredients for dog safety; avoid toxic foods like onions and garlic.
