Ingredients
Scale
- 2–3 pounds of chicken bones (necks, feet, and backs are ideal)
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 8–10 cups water (enough to cover bones)
- Optional: 2 carrots, 2 celery stalks
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Place chicken bones in a stockpot or slow cooker. Add chopped carrots and celery, if using.
- Add Liquid: Pour apple cider vinegar over the bones, then add enough water to cover by an inch.
- Simmer: Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 12-24 hours. If using a slow cooker, set to low for the same duration.
- Strain: Once done, let the broth cool slightly. Strain out the bones and vegetables, leaving a clear, rich broth.
- Cool and Store: Let the broth cool completely before serving. Store in the refrigerator for up to five days or freeze in ice cube trays for up to three months.
Notes
- For an anti-inflammatory boost, add a teaspoon of turmeric to the broth.
- You can substitute chicken bones with beef or pork bones; adjust the cooking time accordingly.
- Always cool the broth before serving it to your dog.
