Description

A crunchy and wholesome Chicken & Rice Crunch Bones recipe made with real chicken, rice, and dog-safe ingredients—perfect for rewarding your pup with a homemade treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cooked chicken, shredded (plain, skinless, boneless)
  • 1/2 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup oat flour (or finely ground rolled oats)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Optional: 1 tbsp ground flaxseed or chia seeds
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • Optional: 2 tbsp finely chopped carrots or peas

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine cooked chicken, rice, and egg. Mix well until evenly blended.
  3. Add chicken broth and olive oil, stirring until the mixture is wet but not soupy.
  4. Gradually stir in whole wheat flour and oat flour until a firm, pliable dough forms.
  5. Mix in optional ingredients like parsley, turmeric, or flaxseed, if using.
  6. Roll dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness and cut with bone-shaped cookie cutters.
  7. Place shaped dough on prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until edges are golden brown. For extra crunch, turn off oven and let sit inside for another 30 minutes.
  9. Allow to cool completely before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for 7 days, in the fridge for 3 weeks, or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Adjust baking time for desired crunchiness—longer for harder biscuits, shorter for softer texture.
  • Use chickpea flour for a grain-free alternative.
  • Use applesauce instead of olive oil for a low-fat version.
  • Check with your vet before introducing new ingredients if your dog has food sensitivities or allergies.
