Description

Pumpkin & Beet Dental Chews for Dogs are homemade treats designed to support your pup's dental health while offering a range of nutritional benefits using all-natural ingredients like pumpkin and beets.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup pure pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup cooked and pureed beets
  • 1/4 cup coconut flour (or oat flour)
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • A dash of cinnamon (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons water (add more if needed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pumpkin by roasting fresh pumpkin (if using) or using store-bought 100% pumpkin puree.
  2. Cook beets by boiling until soft, then peel and puree.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, beet puree, and coconut oil.
  4. Gradually add coconut flour, mixing well to create a firm yet pliable dough.
  5. Add turmeric and cinnamon (if using) and mix thoroughly.
  6. If the dough is too dry, add water one tablespoon at a time until reaching the desired consistency.
  7. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  8. Roll out the dough to a 1/4-inch thickness on a floured surface and cut into rectangular strips.
  9. Place strips on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until firm and slightly browned at the edges.
  11. Allow chews to cool completely before serving to your dog.

Notes

  • Store chews in an airtight container for up to 1 week at room temperature or 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
  • Freezing the chews allows for longer storage.
  • Introduce new treats gradually to monitor for any digestive upset.
  • You can substitute coconut flour with oat or chickpea flour.
  • Adding peanut butter can enhance flavor for picky dogs.
