Description

Sweet Potato & Cranberry Chews for Dogs are a healthy, homemade treat packed with fiber, antioxidants, and essential vitamins, making them a nutritious way to reward your furry friend.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large sweet potato (about 1½ cups, cooked and mashed)
  • ½ cup dried cranberries (unsweetened)
  • 1 cup oats, finely ground into oat flour
  • 2 tablespoons water or low-sodium chicken broth (optional for consistency)

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel the sweet potato. Cut it into chunks and cook by boiling, steaming, or baking until soft, about 15-20 minutes for boiling or 30-40 minutes for baking at 400°F (204°C).
  2. Mash the cooked sweet potato until smooth and let it cool to room temperature.
  3. Grind 1 cup of rolled oats into oat flour using a blender or food processor.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed sweet potato, oat flour, and dried cranberries. Mix thoroughly until a dough forms. Add water or broth, one tablespoon at a time, if needed for consistency.
  5. Place the dough between two sheets of parchment paper and flatten to about ¼-inch thickness using a rolling pin.
  6. Cut the dough into desired shapes, such as squares or using cookie cutters.
  7. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Transfer the shaped dough to the baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chews are firm but not too hard.
  9. Allow the chews to cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

  • Store chews in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  • For longer storage, freeze the chews and thaw before serving.
  • Ensure cranberries are unsweetened and free of harmful preservatives.
  • Add a spoonful of dog-safe peanut butter for extra flavor.
