  • Author: mydogrecipe
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 10-12 treats 1x
  • Diet: Gluten Free

Description

A delicious and nutritious homemade treat for dogs made from sweet potato and peanut butter, perfect for rewarding good behavior or simply spoiling your furry friend.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large sweet potato (baked and mashed)
  • 1/2 cup natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)
  • 2 cups oat flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon for added flavor

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Wash and poke holes in the sweet potato, then bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 45 minutes, or until tender. Let cool, peel, and mash until smooth.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed sweet potato with peanut butter. Stir until well mixed.
  4. Gradually add the oat flour, mixing until a manageable dough forms. Add more oat flour if the dough is too sticky.
  5. Lightly dust a clean surface with oat flour, then roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  6. Use a round cookie cutter to cut out treats and place them on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the treats turn golden brown.
  8. Let the treats cool completely on a wire rack before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Ensure the peanut butter is xylitol-free as xylitol is toxic to dogs.
  • For extra flavor, add a dash of cinnamon, which is safe for dogs in small amounts.
  • Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, in the refrigerator for up to three weeks, or freeze for long-term storage.
  • You can substitute oat flour with other dog-safe flours such as almond flour or coconut flour.
  • Always consult your vet before introducing new ingredients if your dog has dietary restrictions.
